  State Farm uses one rating system to quote rates to new customers and a different system to quote rates to existing customers and charge existing customers extremely higher rates. We purchased a motorcycle policy from State Farm and went back to purchase insurance on 2 cars, 2 snowmobiles, 2 jet skis, and an umbrella policy. Because we were considered an existing customer (due to the motorcycle policy) and it had been 34 days since our original quote (and they honor the quote for 30 days) State Farm wouldn't honor the quotes they gave us on any of the other lines of business. They re-rated us as an existing customer and rates were extremely different (e.g. the 2 cars alone would have been more than $640 more than the quote they gave us for new customers). When I asked why rates were so much higher when nothing had changed they could only say that they have to use a different system to rate existing customers. It's really sad that a company treats new customers well but existing customers so poorly. We walked away with all of the lines of business and cancelled the motorcycle policy because we don't want to deal with a company that treats its customers that way.
